It is undeniabe. Cali is the capital of the boxing world (Vegas is right next door.)

I would like to see NYC become a hotbed again like it used to be. But I don't know if it ever will. Maybe if more Mexicans move there, lol.

Its because of Ward and Donaire' success that I'm a fan of boxing today. I hope Guerrero can get to that next level as well.

When I first got into boxing back in the 80's, there was not much going on with boxing in CA. Now, it has really become big. De La Hoya has helped bring a lot of big fights to the Staple Center. Vegas still has most of the big fights, but we make Vegas, so its all good.

I never gave that much thought to what state the best fighters came from. It does seem like Califonia is ahead of any other state right now. Of course California and New York have very large populations so they have a better chance at having good fighters by sheer numbers.

I did a quick check and California has by far the largest population of any state. Califonia has a population of 38 million. Texas is 2nd. with 26 million and New York is 3rd with 19 million. With twice the population of New York California has twice as many chances of outstanding fighters coming from there. California has a larger population than most countries. My state of New Mexico has about 4 million people and we have Austin Trout.

What matters most is not population but having people who are interested in and support boxing.

Florida has a large population too but they aren't much of boxing hotbed.

If New York had a heavyweight champion to call their own they'd be right back in the game.
