Do you bet on boxing?

Hypothetically speaking. Picking favorites in boxing is pretty easy so you bet big.

Say You pick the favorite 10 straight times betting $500 each time at -500 odds for each fight. (That's a HUGE FAVORITE). Your take home is $100 per fight. 10 wins at $100 profit per fight; So now you're up $1000 after 10 fights.

Now here comes a live dog (in your opinion ) at +1000. Do you bet your $1000 profit? No. Do you bet $100? No. You make a small $10 wager because if you lose you're still up $990 after 11 fights. However if you win, you're up an additional $100 on top of your $1000 (thanks to a small live dog bet of $10).

When you bet a dog you never plunk down as much cash as you would a favorite because the ROI is much bigger for a much smaller bet.

Of course you will lose more often when picking a dog, but your losses can be mitigated by the much smaller wagers in comparison to the bigger wagers when picking favorites. Which cover most of the time if you know what you are doing.

Here's the thing.....

If you're betting $500 straight wagers on -500 favorites to win $100, you have no business betting to start with.

And nearly any serious bettor, is betting to win based on their unit, whatever it may be.

-250 favorite, with a unit size of $100. $250 to win $100.

+1000 dog, same unit. $10 to win $100.

You're not really going to throw away a **** load of money betting underdogs, because you're going to be betting a much smaller amount.

And you're not going to be throwing away a **** load of money on heavy favorites, because, well, you're not going to be straight betting heavy favorites.

That's where prop betting comes in. Decision props, will go, won't go, round props, over/under, hedging. There are a million ways to make money betting boxing, and a lot ways to minimize your losses.

5dimes has more props that any online book I've ever seen. It's the premier book for boxing/mma betting, imo.

As far as my betting...if there's boxing going on, on the weekend, chances are, I've got a bet floating around somewhere...off the top of my head, I hit Senchenko this past weekend....Mosley over Margarito, Litzau over Cab (probably the heaviest dog I've hit. I got it at +1100).

also. all you betters that live in u.s. no one ever mentions the juice you have to pay now to get your winnings deposited in your bank account stateside when you win. you see they made it ilegal in u.s. to bet off track or on the internet a couple years ago.

To expand a little more, another approach is just to set yourself a flat win amount, say, $50.

-200 favorite. Bet $100, win $50.

+200 dog. Bet $25, win $50.

This is a popular method among bettors. It's also really hard to stick with. But you can be the greatest bettor that has ever lived, without money management, you're just another losing bettor that tried to make it work.
