I think on the later part of his days at 140 he was a brawler but at the begging he was a boxer. Look at his fights with Abdulaev and Maussa. He was defensive and boxed very nice.

He was never a brawler.People mistake pressure fighters for brawlers,but it's not really the same thing.Ricardo Mayorga was a brawler,Marcos Maidana is a brawler.Cotto never fought like that - not even when he applying a ton of pressure at his peak.He was always a fundamentally sound boxer-puncher.
