Last night was a sorry state for boxing ....
First, Ricky Hatton was supposed to get his shit together and go out on a high note, or make a little run for a belt. I think we were all rooting for him deep down, besides all the haters. Thanks for some memorable fights Ricky.
I still think to this day, we missed actually seeing the Mayweather/Hatton fight we all expected ... that fucken Joe Cortez ... bad ref, one of the worst, if ever I saw one. If Ricky was allowed to fight as "Ricky Hatton" in Ricky's smothering pressure mauling style, we would have had a great fight that the fight fans were looking forward to, and expected. Instead we got the Mayweather/Cortez/Hatton fight, and ultimately Cortez helped send Ricky to early retirement. The Mental aspect of things in under-rated. Reminds me Chavez/Taylor. Taylor won the fight and was robbed by the ref with a couple seconds on the clock. The mental aspect was powerful that fight. With a win, Taylor would have went on to be a P4P great ... instead we all saw what happened.
Right up there with Cortez is judge Duane Ford after his Pac/Bradley scoring, then Duane's explanation that Nevada judges are trained to see things the normal viewer can't ... 92% scored it for Pac by a wide margin with only 4% thinking Bradley narrowly edging, the rest% having it a draw... I think Duane Ford needs to have his bi-focals checked, he might have a cracked lens. Back to Joe Cortez for a minute. Even though we are all lucky Cortez retired, because he ******, I do however support his call for reform in the way judges are seated, I think we can all agree judges need to be seated higher and I support his call for reform.
Berto, Berto, Berto. Where to begin. 2 Years ago he was near the brink of elite or maybe he had just arrived. After his cushy 3 fight contract with HBO for 1.1 million per fight I think he got complacement and comfortable. Mye how he has slid down the slide. 2 years Robert Guerrero would have been knocked out cold ... like ICE COLD. I don't know what happened to berto. Berto had the chance to erase the doubters. Now Berto sinks to contender status/opponet for future foes, although i'm sure Al Haymon will line up one more chance for him - As a good manager is supposed to do. Robert Guerrero on the other hand replaces the spot of Berto, in becoming a fighter on the brink of elite, not quite there yet. I was impressed with Guerrero's sustained mauling of Berto though, reminescint of the old Ricky Hatton. Berto needed a ref like Cortez last night(insert laugh here). But seriously, Mayweather would slaughter Guerrero, handily I think. Pacquiao . . . haha lol, Pac would demolish Guerrero inside 6 rounds.
... heres to hoping for a better 2013
