Do you let a boxer's life outside the ring influence your opinion of him?

I think a lot of you let what a boxer does outside the ring influence whether or not you like them. Guys, we're boxing fans, not PEOPLE fans. What a guy does outside the ring should in no way determine whether or not you appreciate him as a fighter or think he's trash. I let what a fighter does in the ring determine my opinion of him.

    For example:
Roy ducked big names in the sport for a long time = Roy is a coward
Barrera is a great personality outside of the ring, but he gets dirty in a close fight, so I consider him a dirty fighter unworthy of my respect.

I'll be the first to admit my five favorite fighters are also probably the FIVE BIGGEST *******S in the sport.

    Toney, Corrales, Judah, Mayweather, Tarver...

these guys have done horrible things in the past and are just arrogant bastards a lot of the time. even though I think Corrales has turned his life around, those others are pretty much still jerks, but why should I let that influence my opinion of them?

even in basketball, I know my favorite players are terrible people. Allen Iverson and Kobe Bryant? biggest jerks you'll ever hear of. But great ball players.

Stop letting something James Toney said to offend you get in the way of your appreciation for his skills. Stop praying to see Judah or Mayweather get KO'ed because they say they're the best out there. Stop wishing bad things for Corrales because he beat his wife years ago. Does it make you cry that Corrales beat his wife up?

I hate reality TV and I don't read People Magazine because I am not a fan of PEOPLE. I love boxing, so I watch what goes on in the ring and don't really care about anything else.

I try to separate boxing from their life. I know people that can't stand Mike Tyson and won't say they like him as a boxer just because of what he was arrested for. Its not my place to pass judgement so I try and just judge their boxing.

As much as I would like to just see boxers as fighters I cant help my self but wonder about their regular life. So I do care what a fighter is like outside the ring.

I try not to, but I admit, I lose respect for a man that beat's his woman/girlfriend.

              I'd say it depends...

If their outside life starts to effect them inside the ring, then yes.

As long as they show up and take care of business inside the ring I don't really think it's anyone's business what they're like outside of it (barring criminal offenses).
