Comments Thread For: Hatton's Trainer: Ricky Looked Old in The Later Rounds

Ricky Hatton's return to the ring ended in defeat as he was knocked out by a ninth-round body shot from Vyacheslav Senchenko.

Hatton, 34, was back in the ring for the first time since a devastating second-round knockout by Manny Pacquiao in 2009, with many wondering if the Mancunian former two-weight world champion had anything left in the tank.

This 10-round welterweight comeback fight against Ukrainian former WBA champion Senchenko failed to really answer that question as Hatton laboured at times before succumbing to a painful body shot which left a packed Manchester Arena crowd devastated.

Frankly, watching Ricky fight in his mid 30s is like watching Tyson in his mid 30s. Explosive for 4 rounds and then starts to fade badly. The brawler style just isn't effective for fighters that age.

what's he mean by you can't beat youth? Does he realise Senchencko is a year older than Hatton?

he left his guard down so much...it was like Williams coming back against Lara and still getting tagged with the overhand lefts. 3 1/2 years gone he still didn't make adjustments to cover up. Very sad.

The damage that Ricky took over the years makes his body 'older' than Senchenko's.

He was basically saying that you cant beat the clock at the end of the day.

You've made a good point, and Hatton also never had the one punch equalizer that Tyson had.

I guess we should feel sorry for Hatton, but then again, are we in his tax bracket? I know Im not. Time to close this chapter in British boxing and move on to Price, Fury, Quigg, Brook, still with Froch... the future looks bright and will continue

He did indeed. His speed, timing, power and strength were all gone. It just shows how much the smallest dips are so exposed in the boxing ring.

Ricky looked old in the ring walk. The only way he was getting out of this with a win was if Senchenko had mentally checked out on his own career.
