Revisiting Rios vs Abril

It wasn't a pretty fight, and it's not my preference. But the fact remains that Abril was robbed against Rios, won virtually every round, and made Brandon look lost in the ring, both literally and figuratively.
Taking shots to the head and continually coming forward while launching shots of your own may make you a tough "warrior", but it doesn't make you a boxer.Comment

If I was interested in watching Abril again,I'd say that I hope that the disgusting,knob-slobbering Brian Kenny wasn't covering anymore of his fights. But then,I don't really have that much interest in watching that stinky spoiler fight again.
The greatest shock of that night was that Kenny didn't jump into that ring, push Abril's corner out of the way,and give him a nice, long Havana slurpee.Comment

But of all things Rios looked lost. That was the biggest thing that I sawDon't like beating a dead horse, but I see that people keep bringing up this fight and implying its a guarantee that Rios would get ripped apart by anyone with skill.
Just to get it out of the way, yes, Abril was robbed badly. No way Rios won that fight. The decision stunk and those judges should have been disciplined.
Back to the fight. Its so obvious that Rios was horribly weight drained. Excuse or not, he was. He was lethargic, slow as hell, his punches had nothing on them and he looked like he was going to collapse out there. He was not himself. I don't understand how anyone can deny that.
Second, I fail to see how Abril "schooled" him. At first he was outboxing Rios a bit, but in the latter rounds he was just standing there letting Rios whack on his arms. Hardly a schooling, more like just winning.
So explain to me how that fight proves anything other than he shouldn't have been fighting at that weight.Comment

A lot of people didn't. But you've got Rios apologists that wanna focus on Abril's perceived dullness and justify the robbery. Richard won in ugly fashion, but he (clearly should've) won fair and square. Boxing is the only sport I'm aware of where people think the way in which the winner pulls off the victory is more important than the victory itself. I wonder how many football games (both American and otherwise) are won that way? How many baseball games?Comment

if we're judging by the standard of "merit" then ríos did even worse as far as i'm concerned - looked and was clueless, no style or grace, dumb, unimaginative, repetitive, totally ineffective, out of control etc etc etc
boxing is controlled/control of aggression
ríos has next to no control over his aggression (or abril's) leading to an inability to do anything other than go full steam ahead on the aggression regardless of whether or not that is working.
whether we're using a points system or otherwise - ríos didn't do **** for my moneyComment
