Do Boxing and Fencing share a History?

I have noticed fencing has a similar stance to boxing stance and the way they come at you with there swords is similar to a jab.

Anyway, I am curios to know if they shared a history.

I know Daniel Mendoza was a guy who gave boxing a bit of science and so I love the history of boxing and how it evolved to a high level martial art.

Yeah boxing was supposedly fencing without a sword. Back in the day there were three sciences: gun duelling, fencing and boxing. Boxing was called the sweet science because it was the most non-lethal. Boxing and fencing were also in competition with each other at some point and people used to say fencing would kill boxing some day.

Yes the first fencer pulled a sword and the other guy punched him in the head , started the rumour dont bring a knife to a gunfight .

Boxing goes back to ancient Greece and probably ancient Egypt. So it was it's own thing at one point before fencing I would say.
