If boxing is not a mainstream sport in America and it is in Europe and the old Eastern Bloc, why is Floyd Mayweather the number 1 paid athlete last year in the world? That doesn't make sense. That number really matters, regardless of $50 PPV's. Millions of people paid the money to see him fight. Why isn't one of the Klitschko's #1 if boxing is so much bigger over there?
The NFL/Boxing Theory have some real weight behind it.

Lmao.. That's not how it works. If boxing is not a mainstream sport in America and it is in Europe and the old Eastern Bloc, why is Floyd Mayweather the number 1 paid athlete last year in the world? You don't judge which sport is the most popular or the most watched by 'salary' of one fighter.
Floyd is not the #1 most paid athlete btw.
European soccer stars contracts are non public.
Cristiano Ronaldo costed $131.6 million USD.. His networth is higher than Floyd's and he's almost 10 years younger.
You don't judge how popular a sport is by how much the TOP star is making.
You judge how popular a sport is by the coverage it's given in your respective country.
Come on... you honestly think Boxing is mainstream in the United States?
Is this a joke?
Anyone that says Boxing is mainstream in the Untied States have never lived there or only spend a short amount of time there.
NFL is main stream
NBA is main stream
BOXING IS NOT MAINSTREAM.
In the USA.
How is that even an arguement?
This is the worst logic I ever heard:
FLOYD MAYWEATHER JR is the highest paid athlete in the world(even though that's not how it works) therefore Boxing=main stream sport in USA.

he could have, maybe...
imagine if he was a successful amateur right, and a few people said he would dominate Wlad. Everyone would say you cant compare the ams to the pros its a different game an all that (and theyd be right). But for some reason its ok to take a guy from another sport entirely and proclaim him better than the established champ of the world?Comment

It's a mark of popularity. Go through the top ten list and you won't find any athletes there that aren't from a mainstream sport. Kind of strange for boxing to be the only sport in the top 10 that isn't mainstream. There aren't any other sports in the US were millions are paying 70$ just to see it.Lmao.. That's not how it works.

Huh? Tiger Woods was easily the most well known/popular athlete on the planet for over a decade now. And nobody's saying the pay means boxing is bigger than those sports, it shows it's still hanging in there fine.
And are you kidding me? Golf is bigger than baseball and the NFL on the world stage. Nobody really gives a **** about those sports much outside the US. Basketball might have some sway because of China but it's still new there.
The fact that a boxing prelim, not even the proper undercard fight, for an Amir Khan fight on Showtime can get higher TV ratings on CBS than a big college basketball game in a similar timeslot shows boxing is still far from out of the picture yet. Adamek vs Cunningham shown at 3am on NBC pulled higher TV ratings than some NBA games during the peak hours. And both of those fights had **** all promotion behind them. They just slapped them down without telling anyone.Last edited by croz; 02-01-2013, 10:08 AM.Comment
