Which was Juan Manuel Marquez's best performance against Manny Pacquiao?

    2004 @ 126

The rawest version of Manny that JMM faced, but a Manny that was also coming off what still stands as arguably the greatest victory of his career, his destruction of Marco Antonio Barrera. JMM fights back from a disastrous first round to win the 'rest' of the fight on two of the scorecards, winning it very comprehensively on one of them.

    2008 @ 130

This version of Pacquiao had beaten Barrera and Morales twice, and was about to go on the run that made him a global superstar. An extremely close fight with several toss up rounds. The knockdown costs JMM the fight.

    2011 @ 147

Pacquiao was coming off an unimpressive but nevertheless comprehensive victory over a shot Shane Mosley. Marquez is for the first time in the series fighting at the weight for only the second time and looked terrible on that first outing. He dominates the early and middle rounds on most scorecards, arguably putting more daylight between the two fighters than either had managed to date in the trilogy. Still loses the fight on two scorecards.

Oddly enough it's the first fight, the closest one of all 3.

For me it's the second fight. His comeback in the first was incredible, but that was the most limited version of Pacquiao (in boxing terms) that he faced.

Similarly, the Manny he faced in the third fight was a shadow of the guy that had been there for the previous three years. And without the boundless energy, Manny just didn't really have a way of closing the distance and throwing without over-extending himself. For me that's the fight that Marquez clearly won.

2008 was the closest of the three fights and the 'prime' version of Pacquiao. At the very least, JMM took 5 rounds in that fight, something no one had done against Manny since Morales in 2005, and no one would do again until JMM himself in 2011. Smack **** in the middle of that incredible six year run for Manny Pacquiao, Marquez met him and beat him in a lot of people's eyes.

2004 was his best performance, he won 9-10 rounds.

However, 2011 was the clearest win. I had it 117-111 Marquez in a fight he won quite easily.

Jmm is always judged on how he does against Pac solely. JMM can get away with fighting bums, unlike Pac, yet who Pac fights is scrutinized more, even though he fights better fighters.

Out of interest, which of the last 4 rounds did you give to Marquez?

                  9 and 11.

10 could have gone either way.
