Should Ward have fought Bute before Froch did? Was Bute deserving?

I wanted the fight to take place..... But Ward chose a better opponent (not Wards fault Dawson said he would do 68).... Would have been intriguing but its not a huge miss imo

Ward said many times that he didnt like the idea of Bute sort of laying in wait to fight the winner of the Super 6 when everyone else involved in the tournament had to go through so many tough fights to win. He didnt like the idea that Bute would more or less skip that and just get one fight that should he win, would have made the effort of the guys in the tournament seem worthless. I agree with him.

There's no hate behind Ward-Bute specifically. When any highly touted fighter loses that badly, he just loses stock, end of. Nobody is picking on Bute individually, it's just what happens.

You see any one hyping up Sillakh, Proksa, or Jacobs anymore? It's not something against Bute, it's just what happens. You get KTFO, you have to start all over, get back on your feet, get some wins. That fight is not a good fight right now. Pavlik lost to Martinez 2 years ago, but he's picked himself up, collect a few fights against some bums, beat a decent fighter in Rosinski. Pavlik isn't that good, but right now he's basically one of the best SMW's that Ward hasn't fought yet.

Bute is on a good track by beating Grachev, now a couple of more wins and I would then get excited about him vs Ward. I don't think he's even gonna get past Froch.

The fight should have been made before the Froch fight. It was one of the biggest fights in boxing.

Sillakh, Proska and Jacobs were never long reigning world champions.

It's funny how people (myself included) rambled on about Bute not stepping up to fight top comp but then he wants to fight THE top guy in the division and its like "well he doesn't deserve it"

Of course. That would have been a huge win for Ward, better than draining Dawson down was that's for sure.

Ward was injured, I'd guess venue was going to be an issue too.

If he's staying at 168, Ward should fight him down the line.

Seems like a few folks are ignoring the fact that Ward injured his hand during the Froch fight and wouldnt have been availabe anyway. If Bute was serious about facing Ward he would have waited for him to heal, instead he agreed to face Froch.

Ward wont get any credit for beating Bute at this point anyway, folks will just claim that Froch ruined him, etc.

Pavlik has better names on his resume than Lucian Bute. Pavlik has never been absolutely destroyed like Bute was vs. Froch, and Pavlik has fought several fighters ranked higher than Froch.

its always a good thing to take another guy that was hyped like Bute's 0... but to tell u the truth, fight wouldn't have happened anyways cause bute don't like to fight outside of canada and ward don't like to fight outside of oakland

He likely would have fought Bute if he beat Froch, and its not like he fought anyone else instead. So no, Bute didn't deserve it, Froch proved that.
