The rose tinted goggles cloud most peoples' opinions so much they can't see that the HW divisions has never really been all it's made out to be. Even in the golden era of HW boxing Ernie Shavers managed to start at age 26 and rise into the top ranks. Today we have guys like Wilder and Deontay Wilder who started in their early twenties yet everyone just wants to **** on them.
Solid answer, but I have to point out boxing writers never compared HW Eras just to other HW eras as a standard of grading. Boxing writers also never ever wrote the 80's or the 20's were 'good era's.

In fact it is widely acknowledged there were actually only two good eras in hw boxing. The 70's and 90's.

70's because of the popularity and drama, 90's because of the sheer talent.

The 60's 70's were rated higher because of the sheer amount of public interest and overall focus on the division.

The 90's had a massive collection of punchers and overall in depth talent.

The 80's was a poor/average era. Tyson helped the 2nd part of the 80's and the early 90's a bit, in fact the only reason the 80's was considered an average era was because the 2nd part had Mike Tyson.

Except nobody said Ernie Shavers was good. He just had massive power.

I have no idea why you brought up Wilder even because he is a unknown quantity. For all we know Wilder can send Wlad into retirement 2 years from now. There is zero knowledge of what Wilder can achieve yet.

Strange as it seems, Galento was rated as a dangerous fighter. he hardly ever trained, used to boast that he trained on beer and was often photographed with a cigar in his mouth ot shouldering a keg of beer at his bar. A real throwback to the old mauler days, a very dirty fighter.
