Mares's dirtiness comes from his reckless aggression, it's a permanent facet of his style. It doesn't matter how polished he becomes, he'll always go into beast mode and start throwing punches and won't care where it lands (as long as he doesn't miss). What I don't like is the refs seem to not give a shit about all the roughhousing. I don't know what else Moreno could've done while being pinned to the ropes, other than trying to push Mares off to get a bit of space to punch. Mares fought the way would be the most effective, and Moreno couldn't do enough to negate it.

All this stuff gets forgiven because he's a come-forward fighter with a high work-rate, but a guy like Lara gets criticized for his dirtiness because his style isn't entertaining.
