Comments Thread For: Guillermo Rigondeaux Approved Francisco, HBO Did Not

According to multiple sources who were involved in the negotiations, WBA super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux (11-0, 8KOs) approved all of the opponents that were presented by Top Rank. In an earlier article, the management of Filipino contender Drian Francisco (23-1-1, 18KOs) were claiming that Rigondeaux turned them down in favor of Thailand's rugged former beltholder Poonsawat Kratingdaenggym (48-2, 33KOs). However, that is not the case.

HBO forces guys who aren't big draws to fight tough opponents. If Rigo was as popular as Chavez Jr they would have accepted Francisco.

Poon is a former champ and will give Rigo some credibility to build up Donaire-Rigo next year

drian francisco should be handled more carefully. he is a decent prospect and eventually i think he will be ready to fight for a world title, but now is not that time.

Francisco should be very thankful that HBO declined, he could have suffered some permanent damage to his brain if he ever fought Rigo.

The proper fight was made...good fight for both Poonsawat and Riggs. let the loser fight Francisco.

It does not really matter, Nonito, Francis or the Ponn, it will be just a big "W" for Rigo, the real number 1 pxp.
