Comments Thread For: Fernando Montiel Promises To Return To The Big Time

Fernando Montiel believes there is enough fight left in him to one day resume his championship ways.

For now, the former three-division titlist is content with lending his name to towns in his native Mexico that could stand the economic boost.

Montiel (48-4-2, 37KO) returns to Chihuahua for his second straight fight when he faces Giovani Caro on November 24. The fight takes place at the newly renovated Jose “Neri” Santos Municipal Gym in Ciudad Juarez, and will air live on Televisa as part of the network’s ‘Sabado de Corona’ series.

I'm sorry to say this but Fernando's days are way over. They were over the day he left the 115 lbs. weight class. It seems to me like he was on barrowed time at 118. He was able to beat Hasegawa; and although a win is a win, he really was losing the whole fight before that left hand landed. If he wins his next fight, I'd like to see him face Darchynian in a crossroads fight!

im sorry to say but the only time fernado montiel got to the top p4p rankings was when he was at 118 , meaning he was at his absolute best at that time..

one thing ive noticed tho was that he was getting hurt pretty easily againts terrazas but even then he was putting a good fight with the younger , stronger guy..

the last time i saw him , he still was a good test for anyone at 122 exept for nonito..

He needs to stay as far away from 122 as he can if has any chance to win any titles. With Donaire, Rigo, Mares, and now Moreno there he's got a very slim to no chance.

vic darc and montiel would be entertaining. but i do think 122 for montiel is not a good idea. he is definitely on the decline.

I'd like to see him vs MARES/MORENO winner, anyway if he goes to featherweights he can make a terrific fight with PONCE DE LEON because their style's fighting. To me MONTIEL is a great boxer, really a great boxer!!!
