Do you guys also find it funny when...

....you see people on message boards or on youtube ask "Who would have won: Floyd Mayweather Jr vs Roy Jones Jr". (I just saw that comment on youtube 5 minutes ago and I remember that subject came up here on bscene also multiple times)
Cause I always find it kinda funny. Cause I remember when I started watching boxing many years ago, at first I was only interested in the heavyweights, and only later did I develop interest in all weight classes and only then did I realise that a great welterweight would never beat a great middleweight (not nowadays with all the weight fighters put on between weigh in and fightnight).
So knowing Floyd never was even a light middleweight (even though he fought there twice), it is pretty funny when pple really ask the question whether a prime Roy Jones (the light heavyweight version cause that was the weight class in which he was p4p king for so many years) would beat a prime Floyd Mayweather.
I won't hate on the newbies who just started watching boxing and I won't hate on the ****** questions they ask.

Yeah it actually is. At first i used to also only be concerned with the heavyweights then when i trully started loving the sport i paid attention to all the weight classes. I remember i once told this other friend of mine( whos a semi casual), that Floyd mayweather was the best boxer in the world, he told me theres noway floyd could beat Wladimir and that he would get destroyed. I just smh coz they dont understand and try to argue like they know the sport (most irritating part).

I think when people think of that match up it's in pound for pound, not literal.
like how would it have played out if they were the same size? obviously, they aren't.. but that's what pound for pound means. if everyone was the same size, who would be better.

I dont think so. I think they literally mean what would happen if Floyd was in a ring with Roy Jones.

There was a topic on it but it was very specific. It was something like both of them at 154, who wins? That's still a tough call. I don't think the Mayweather that fought Delahoya/Cotto beats RJJ at 154 but we're comparing apples and oranges here.

yeah it's funny. sometimes they know and just wondering how their styles would match up. but i get questions like this all time when I watch with friends. "Why doesn't Donaire fight Pacquiao is one I get a lot" lol. and man it can be hard to explain how crucial a role size/weight can play in matching up.

Donaire/Pac is an extreme example but, in general, I think the nuances with weight difference and classes is one of the hardest things for many fans to really appreciate. It was one of the last things I really started to grasp myself as basically a lifelong fan...hell I still have problems with detecting when it might be an issue in certain fight. For years, when i as a kid I wanted to see Terry Norris vs JCC Sr BAD and my dad kept saying that Norris was too big and I never understood what he meant. I could see that their weights were close so I figured it was no big deal. I box as a hobby but never had to make weight so it's hard for me to know what it means to have to fight another pro who outweighs me by 10pds.

In our normal lives 3 pounds here, 7 pounds there doesn't mean much and you might never even notice...people might go months without weighing themselves, for example. When you watch fights on TV everyone looks the same size because they are always matchuped against someone like them with only a new natural traits separating the two. If you don't pay attention you might think Floyd and RJJ were the same division

              btw Roy by decision
