Geale agreed to mandatory defend the WBA belt in his first defence so it's his own problem.

Can't say I'm sad cuz it's about damn time! Like WBA said, a unification bout would not be out of the question, unlike WBC who won't allow their champions to have multiple belts. I fully expect Geale/Golovkin to happen next year, assuming Martinez doesn't get to Geale first.

Wow, that didn't take long. Didn't they just announce the ultimatum yesterday or the day before?

Either way, Geale knew it, and still pursued the big money rematch in Australia, so this was bound to happen.

Won't be long before the WBA gets GGG as the new Super champ and promotes another fella for the "regular" belt. Heaven forbid they have one champ at a time.

I think this is great for GGG but this is also why I can't stand sanctioning bodies.

Sturm was allow to do whatever he wanted as long as he made the WBA money. he was allowed to duck GGG, N'dam or anybody else who was his mandatory but as long as the WBA got its cut, the rules be damned.

Now Geale isn't as big of a draw and GGG actually has a promotion investing in him and suddenly the WBA, for the right price, remember its own rules and regulations.

like I said I think this is great for GGG but it's too bad the WBA didn't do this earlier. I would have rather seen GGG blast Sturm instead of this.

I agree that it's inconsistent re: the treatment of Sturm and Geale, but overall, this is a good thing. Golovkin gets a bargaining chip, so hopefully he won't get ducked so much. And Geale still has a belt, and gets a fight with Mundine, so he's fine. Two belts aren't really worth that much more than one.

Even though GGG is my boy and I'm no fan of Geale, I don't like when champions get unfairly stripped and fighters get awarded titles outside the ring.

Sturm= German TV $$$ Golovkin - looks to be becoming HBO fighter.

Geale might be a good draw in Australia but that's about it.

Golovkin can take a tune up in December. Than fight Sergio Martinez in April. That's what I'm hoping for.

Geale straight up ducked Golovkin. He turned down an HBO fight in December against Golovkin, to fight Mundine for christ sake.

Home fight probably nets him more money though. Probably decided to cut his losses and drop one belt for more money.
Now he only has one body to pay

There is no way in hell Martinez fights Golovkin. There is no money in that fight for Martinez and he is 38 years old so it won't "help" his career which is winding down. The lowest money fight Martinez will take is a rematch with Chavez Jr. That is his low water mark. he's looking for much bigger fights against Cotto or Canelo or, his grand slam, against Mayweather. Zero chance Martinez fights Golovkin. Zero.
