  • What's Next for Andy Lee

First of R.I.P to Emanuel Steward.

Now that Manny has passed away, what will be next for Andy Lee? He has lost both his trainer and manager, who would you like to see him go to and why? I personally thought that he should have left Steward a while back as I thought that he was stagnating there and I didn't like what I was hearing from steward about tactics for the JCC jr fight. But under the circumstances, I'm sure Steward was preoccupied with his illness to focus 100% on it.

Its probably gonna sound like bandwagon jumping but I would like to see him go to Virgil Hunter, I think he would teach him to use his brain a bit more and not try to engage so much. Plus a change of scenery would benefit him as I think the Detroit heavy sparring has damaged him somewhat!

I agree with you 100% on all acounts: He needed a change from Steward, and Hunter would be a great choice to tighten up that defense, and get him to use his boxing ability, and brain more.

The main thing I've noticed about Lee, and what I think contributes to him abandoning his outside boxing, is his stamina. After 4-5 rounds, and he just loses all movement in his legs, and snap on his punches. So I think a strength and conditioning coach would be hugely advantageous. Ariza, love him or hate him (I'm more of the latter), you gotta admit is great at what he does, so I think Ariza would be great for him.

I also think he should get with a powerhouse promotor like Golden Boy, or Top Rank, so he can get a wide selection of opponents, and get back on path to a title shot. This time where he can be the "A side," and not have to concede everything like venue, ring size, etc.

He should go back to the Isles & do a Super Six tournament with Barker, Murray, Macklin, Saunders & McEwan (who was winning their bout til the great finish by Andy).

Lee is a good guy and leaves it all in the ring when he fights, but it doesn't matter who trains him as he is lacking in the god given ability to be a worldclass fighter
