Is Wilder the new Lamar Clark?

4 years into his pro run Wilder has not fought no-one at note - I guess his best win was against a BoxRec #250 fighter or so.

Wilder had a very good amateur run. Winner of Golden Gloves, winner at the US Olympic trails, bronze at the Olympics and he even defeated Olympic gold-winner Rakhim Chakhkiev at the World Championship. So his amateur pedigree was better than 95% of amateurs who turn pro.

So why does Wilder has such a crappy resume at the pro so far? Look at Pulev, Povetkin, David Price and Fury - all of them has lesser or the same number of fights but has fought like 100 times better fighters. Even poor Pianata has fought much much better opposition than Wilder.

What is wrong with Wilder? He even claims that he was the main sparring-partner to Wlad for his Wach fight - pure nonsense according to Chef who said that Wilder was useless for Wlad and had less than 10 rounds against Wlad. Wlad himself claims openly that Banks was the main sparring-partner.

    Will Wilder ever step up?

I see plenty of talent in Deontay Wilder, but I think he should have been fighting light-punching but durable journeymen like Kendrick Releford and Jason Gavern instead of pot-bellied age 40 middleweights so he can get some pro experience.

I hate to see talented boxers decline from being poorly managed. Bogdan Dinu is another talented HW who lacks good management and so fights only once per year.

I like Deontay but it's frustrating being a fan of his. His last opponent was a ridiculous match up.

The only real name he has beaten is Kertson Manswell who had lost to Bermaine Stiverne, Mike Perez, Cedric Boswell, Ruslan Chagaev and Alexander Ustinov heading into his fight with Wilder.

Without google it I think he had about 30-40 amateur fights, but his short amateur run was almost outstanding. I think that Wilder had boxed only 5 or 6 years in the amateur and he achieved so much. Impressive. That is why I find his pro run so disappointing. We really need some good US HWs to get the attention back on the prime division.

It's sad that Kelvin Price is a Canyon leap of opposition for him
