I'll never have sympathy for people who contemplate suicide. It is the worst possible kind of indulgence.
Someone used the word disingenuous to describe Hatton earlier in this thread. Maybe he does have a point?Comment

Not sure if making a comeback is the best thing to do. I'm sure he missed the sport, adulation, adrenaline rush of fighting, and was greatly disappointed by his losses to Floyd & Manny. Well he's gonna eventually lose again, especially given his age, fighting style, lifestyle, wear and tear on his body, etc....He runs the risk of brain damage, as every fighter does, and that has been linked with depression, among other things.Comment

Depression is a mental illness. It's often triggered by a catalyst, usually a traumatic event. In Hatton's case, his brain chemistry was probably thrown off-balance by his perceived fall from the top. Not difficult to understand.
One has no control over this event, only in the subsequent treatment. But it's extremely difficult to grasp what to do if you've never experienced it before. One who's never been depressed literally cannot comprehend the complete hopelessness it produces. Being materially wealthy, or otherwise successful, makes no difference. Life seems to lose all meaning.
Asking a depressed person to "snap out of it" or "man up" is like asking an insane person to "stop being crazy". I don't know if Ricky is playing up his experience; but if he was truly depressed, he was undergoing what can only be described as a living hell.
I wish Ricky all the best, but I think his comeback is a mistake. No matter what he does, loss against May and Pac will follow him forever.Comment

When did I try to justify anything? I was only pointing out that you are trying to make a point when you don't have all the information. And the one thing I do know to be 100% true is that in many cases substance abuse is a good indication of someone that is suffering from mental illness.Last edited by panicchaser; 10-30-2012, 07:57 PM.Comment
