Is Don King the devil of boxing?

For years the boxing community has witnessed Don King’s stealing from boxers. Countless lawsuit settlements against King and hundreds more accusations have proven the case. Yet even at age 81, the controversial promoter appears up to his old tricks hustling boxers and causing trouble.

King has spent the past week threatening promoters, Showtime and the WBO, trying to stop his former fighter Ryan Coyne from fighting for the WBO World Light Heavyweight title on November 10th against Nathan Cleverly. King hasn’t paid a single penny in income to Coyne in 16-months and their three-year contract expired September 17th.

King claims the contract was automatically extended for one-year, while Coyne citing numerous breaches and promotional incompetence says three-years lost in the Don King prison is enough.

“I signed a deal with the devil with Don but even bad contracts have limits. Three-years in hell is up. He hasn’t performed even to the most pathetic standards. It’s like I sold him my car, then he thinks that gives him claim to my house and my first born kid,” Coyne said. “He’s put nothing into my career, no money, no effort, not a single example of getting me a quality fight." Don't sign with Don King period. He's too old to handle a big stable of fighters and only the select few get treated well like Devon Alexander and Tavoris Cloud.

Luis Collazo went through the same problems as Coyne trapped in a contract.

I'd take King over Coyne at 175lb any day of the week.

Hmm.. Coyne's Irish, didn't know that, think I'll have to start supporting him! Huzzah to Jingoism!!

On a serious note that piece on King made interesting reading, I knew he was a scumbag murderer, but the piece on the Sun City Casino and Chavez are new to me.

          Only in Venezuela!

Wonder what the boxing landscape will be when the two dinosaurs, King and Arum, kick the bucket? Oh the greener pastures that will spring up!

As far as Coyne goes, tough luck son. You had to have heard about all the **** King has done with other fighters in the past 30+ years, and you still signed with him. ****** move, you're done with him, move and wish him to die not soon enough.

Don King is a snake, but I have no sympathy for Coyne at all. If you're ****** enough to sign a contract with Don King in the first place, you deserve everything that comes with it.

say what u want vs Don, & of course a lot of negativism, but @ almost 82, don sees the end but he's done a great deal 4 this sport & if a lot of the guys blew his upfront $$, it's on them...
