Ruiz and Stone Part Ways

Ruiz, Stone part ways!
Former heavyweight champion John Ruiz has severed ties with longtime manager Norman "Stoney" Stone. According to the Boston Globe, Stone's repeated confrontations and outbursts disrupted the Ruiz camp in the days before the Quietman's fight with Nicolay Valuev and have caused an irrepairable rift with other members of Team Ruiz. Things got so bad that Ruiz allegedly threatened to leave Germany before the fight. There will reportedly be an announcement coming soon that Stone is retiring.

Now, I know Ruiz won't be back to the top because Stone was his cheerleader. Stone got people listening, not "Quiet man".

boxing is better off without him. he should take the bum ruiz with him, too.

Though I don't encourage or support it, Ruiz will stick around and keep fighting. But without King on his side, he probably won't get any big fights without putting together 2 or 3 solid wins in a row. He's got a lot of experience on his side, but I don't see him as a serious threat anymore. Kind of a shame he went out like that, believing he got cheated on his last two fans because he didn't appeal to fans. I would have rather seen him beat Valuev and get stopped by somebody important like Brewster.

Ruiz doesn't seem like a quitter. Ruiz really believes he's good and that he hasn't lost to Golota, Toney or James. It's funny except the fact that it's real. He really thinks he's the heavyweight head honcho.

But in this instance being a quitter is good.

i don't think Ruiz will retire, my guess is he still has the drive at 33. the most likely scenario to me is that he seeks new management, and moves on in his career.

I think he's going to retire.
Either that or go after another belt.
Perhaps the IBF belt.
