ShoulderRoll, be careful saying Golden Boy doesn't mind putting their guys in tough fights. Remember Canyellow Alvarez is their super star. You know him the 140 lb champ who weighs 154 lbs. The guy who the vile scum at the WBC let beat up a third rate 147 lber (Hatton) for their version of the title. The guy with 5 defenses of that title that hasn't fought a top flite contender
Gbp may have just reinvented the boxing business model

Yep. Look at Adamek; he's no one anywhere outside of the east coast, but because of his regional following he's made a fortune and even headlined a PPVComment

Well thats what I think is so great about what gbp is doing. There are several fighters out there that are clearly world class talent but couldnt sell 3 tickets in their hometown because there just isnt much interest in boxing there. Guys like tim bradley and chad dawson.Golden Boy needs to keep building these guys up in their home cities to make them local attractions. That keeps boxing healthy all across the country not just in Vegas.
Then after they have a regional following you can put them on the undercards of the big PPVs and perhaps have them break out to be national stars. But it has to start on the local level first, from the grassroots up.
So how do you fix that problem??? By giving folks a much better value for their money. Locals come for the tribute to their hometown legends and 3-4 championship fights, get exposed to their town's current crop of fighters at the same time. Which gives them an opportunity to build a fanbase.Comment
