The 147 Lbs. Division is Becoming an Insignificant Weight Class. Remedies?

boxers in the 147 lbs division, namely alexander, bradley, malignaggi and guerrero who all are supposedly official title holders of the division (i added guerrero coz let's face it, mayweather won't fight him, no point revenue wise so guerrero gets the belt by default, just like marquez at 140) sadly do not produce the edge of your seat fireworks and electric atmosphere most fans want. such a shame, the 147 division has honestly lost it's luster.

for me, i think more exciting fights should be made and promoters must be more willing to put their fighters out there in the open. i have composed a list of fights which i would like to see, kinda like a classic super 10 at 147. i did not add mayweather on the list coz we all know nobody tells him what to do and might just retire again and face saul alvarez in may 2013 at 154. so here it goes.

    brandon rios vs. devon alexander

    tim bradley vs. andre berto

paulie malignaggi vs. ricky hatton II

    robert guerrerro vs. kell brook

    manny pacquiao vs. lucas mattysse

    your thoughts?

Everything goes in cycles, it will take some time but 147 will generally come back quicker than other divisions.

Not much can be done quickly about it but new guys always come along and even with who is there currently when it shakes out there will be some decent fights to make.

It certainly isn't what it used to be though.

      It's not that bad.

      Champions:
      Mayweather
      Bradley/Pacquiao*
      Alexander
      Malignaggi

      Contenders:
      Berto
      Guerrero
      Zaveck
      Brook
      Josesito
      Ortiz

      Prospects:
      Dulorme
      Thurman
      Porter

Then you will probably have Rios and Broner entering the division in a few years. I'm interested to see how it plays out.

I think its actually getting better. If all the other guys start fighting each other instead of waiting for a payday against Pacquaio or Mayweather, we could see some good fights.

147 is actually a very good division...it's just a matter of the fights being made...and that being the RIGHT fights being made...Mayweather vs Guerrero and Pacquiao vs Paulie isn't exactly the right fights...

but Mayweather vs Pacman, Guerrero vs Berto etc are the right fights....

both khan and garcia are going to be moving up within a year and they might beat everybody else in the division, so the rematch could be at 147.. it might be the next real rivalry.. although khan bradley rivalry is there too but bradley ducked him so there is a possibility he'd duck him again but i think it's unlikely since he was kod by garcia, so bradley is probably less afraid to fight khan at point.. the division is still interesting imo..

-___-, how can you duck someone that isn't on your menu? Berto is going to fight Guerrero.

I agree, the division is actually looking up. A lot of these guys are not gonna get fights with Floyd or Manny so they all should start to fight each other which will make for good fights and an exciting division imo.
