On Dec 17th in Moscow, Denis Lebedev will face age 27 Columbian Santander Silgado.

Newly-crowned WBA cruiserweight champion Denis Lebedev makes the maiden defence of his title when he faces Colombian knockout specialist Santander Silgado on December 17th in Russia.

The 33 year-old was due to face Guillermo Jones in a title challenge after previously holding the interim belt, although the now former champion pulled his old backing-out trick and the title was handed to Lebedev.

Challenger Silgado, 27, has won all 23 of his professional bouts and stopped eighteen opponents, with fourteen of the power-puncher's early nights coming in the first two rounds.

‘Cha Cha’ is significantly stepping up in class though for his first world title chance and takes part in his third contest in Europe as the fight is scheduled for Crocus City Hall in Myakinino.

When I finally get my surgery and go into boxing I'll likely be a crusierweight. I'm a bit dissapointed since I know the bad rep it gets.

The American media bosses refuse to show cruiserweights for some reason.

It makes no sense, and has hurt the careers of good American fighters like Eddie Chambers (who was forced to fight at HW to make a living) and Steve Cunningham.

Jack Dempsey, Floyd Patterson and Rocky Marciano were cruiserweight-sized and always put on exciting fights.

I wonder if they'll have someone else fight Wilson?

Garrett Wilson isn't very good, there are at least 20 better cruiserweights. The sanctioning organizations behave strangely sometimes.

I love the cruisers but it is a pretty weak division for now. Eddie Chambers could make some noise.

After today's Lebedev-Silgado fight, it was mentioned on Russia 2 TV that a fight between Lebedev and Eddie Chambers at Madison Square Gardens may be in the works for March.

                  from www.easts1deboxing.com

By Rob Smith: WBA World cruiserweight champion Denis Lebedev (25-1, 19 KO’s) showed tonight why he’s one of the most dangerous fighters in the cruiserweight division by knocking out #8 WBA Santander Silgado (23-1, 18 KO’s) in the 4th round with a devastating left uppercut to the head that put him down face first on the canvas at the Crocus City Hall, in Myakinino, Russia.

There really wasn’t any point in counting because Silgado was knocked out. The fight was stopped at 2:16 of the round.

Silgado showed really nice power during the first three rounds if the fight, as both fighters traded some monster shots. However, Silgado didn’t have quite as much power as Lebedev and he wasn’t as quick as him either. Lebedev was landing some tremendous punches that told you that the fight wasn’t going to last too long. You’ve got to give credit to Silgado for giving it a game effort but he simply was out of his class in this fight.

It would be nice to see Lebedev and WBO cruiserweight champion Marco Huck get back in the ring for a rematch because those two fighters are at the top of this division and there’s still a lot of controversy about Huck’s 12 round split decision win over Lebedev back in 2010.

After the fight, Team Lebedev called out Eddie Chambers, who in return said he is ready for the fight.

The Ross/Hernandez fight was one of the best of the year. Its a good division just doesn't get any coverage in the states. Might as well scrap that cheating bum Tarver off the list. He was never that impressive even when he was in his prime.

Eric Fields promises upset IBF title win over Yoan Hernandez

Ardmore, Oklahoma, power puncher Eric "Danger" Fields (21-1, 15 KOs) is hoping he'll be underestimated when he brings his heavy fists to Germany on February 2, 2013, to face IBF Cruiserweight Champion Yoan Pablo Hernandez (27-1, 13 KOs) at Max-Schmeling-Halle in Berlin.

Fields and Hernandez will meet in the main supporting bout of the European Light Heavyweight Championship main event between Eduard Gutknecht and Juergen Braehmer.

"This is his third defense and he's had some big wins and he's a southpaw, so I bet he's feeling real confident fighting a guy in the top 15. Well, guess what? He's in danger and he won't know it till it's too late. I'm taking the title from him and bringing it back to America."

Fields' promoter, Greg Cohen of Greg Cohen Promotions, has been looking like a boxing genius of late, after maneuvering WBA world junior middleweight champion Austin Trout from relative obscurity to boxing's newest star.

Cohen says Fields has exactly the kind of power that has bothered the German-based Cuban Hernandez throughout his career.

"His (Hernandez's) only official loss came by KO to big punching Wayne Braithwaite. In his last fight he was fortunate to get a decision over Troy Ross, another fighter with heavy, fast hands. Eric has the athleticism, the speed and the strength to go in and get this guy out of there," said Cohen. "I'm looking forward to adding another world champion to the GCP stable February 2nd."

"Eric is 100% focused and committed to this fight and an Eric Fields in top shape is a big problem for anyone in the world. Some fighters try to weather the storm and wait for him to tire. He's not going to tire in this fight. He's too focused and driven. Now is Eric's time. "
