Anyway going back to the topic, Mab better wake up his mind soon but I would prefer to see a MAB vs Chavez fight.

The Jr. Lightweights' ranks sure look thin, don't it? We have to think of Chavez who's a lightweight to improve the flavor. And, Morales has to be pulled back to 130 in the Pac meeting.

After Barrera and Pacquiao, who else are there?

Pacquiao is not even quite a Jr. Light.

It's truly sad for a weight class that saw the likes of Arguello, Nelson, Elorde, Shibata, Serrano, Mitchel, Leija, Jorgensen... unable to rest on their laurels in the face of long lists of contenders...

For Arguello there were Navarrette, Limon, Escalera, Chacon, Leon...
For Nelson, there were, Leija, Ruelas, Grove, La Porte, Fenech, GHernandez...
For Elorde, there were, Boysaw, Auburn Copeland, Numata, Suh Kang Il, Kosaka, Allotey, Caprari..

He already has two: took the WBC from Erik and then attached the IBF after walking over Peden.

So, now, he's looking at Chavez, reportedly at Lightweight, tentatively set for March, somewhere in good ol' USA, Chavez's IBF belt on the line.

So, if MAB moves up and Erik goes back to higher weights (post-January '06), Pacquiao will be by his lonesome at 130-- if he doesn't go back down to Feather, where he is said to be most comfortable and in best fighting form.

The only glimmer of light I can see at the end of the tunnel for the division is, if Pac stays, those Featherweight guys like Joan, JMM, Larios, etc. have to move up and leave the Feather division to The Ghost, Rocky and company.

Im sorry but both of MAB's current crowns are at SuperFeather (130). But he is reported to be eyeing seriously a 135 meeting with Chavez for the latter's belt. It has been tentatively scheduled for March.

I'm with you on your view that Manny is too small to think of campaigning at 135: provokes memories of Elorde meeting Ortiz twice.

And, yup, Manny should prove to be a bait that's tough to resist for the likes of Larios, Guzman, Guerrero, et al (the last one still has to prove himself, though, but he remains a prospect in my eyes in spite of the recent loss) to move up in weight. If they continue to toil at Feather, they won't have a shot at a million-dollar payday. From where I sit, not even dates with JMM would rake in the money. Pac is their ticket.

Pac being left behind at Jr. Light would certainly lend a new meaning to the phrase, "Lonely at the top."

But some good may come to it: he can set his sights at unifying the jr. light crown and be undisputed-- a feat not managed by both MAB and Erik. That's one long step on the road to Canastota!

But should he decide to go down to Feather, I think, at this stage, he still can, albeit with only minor problems. The 1st Erik fight, after all, was his only one at 130, as I can recall, and the next would only be his second. Going up to Light was not really a natural movement for him; not one dictated by a growing physique, but pressed by his desire to meet Erik. He has proven himself at Feather, and going over the list of current Featherweight luminaries, there's barely any he cannot handle. JMM is one name that would crop up but then...

Anyway, I think, for as long as he rejects plans to go to Light, he should be in a good position to deal with the future, whether he takes that at 130 or 126.

The other side of it though is that without Erik and MAB at Jr. Light and Feather, Pac won't be raking in as much dough. His next challenge may just be: to pack the stadiums in and light up HBO's tills, on his own.

Will he be able to do that? He's got a good chance. There's a fairly large FilAm population and lots of Filipinos all over the world (not to mention the home country's 80 odd million) that compose a Pac market. Even a Viloria and Bautista market, when and if the time comes.
