like losing twice to a future bum Jermain Taylor?

Victories over Hopkins and Toney speak for themselves for Roy. B-Hop is great but some of his best victories came against smaller opponents such as Trinidad and De La Hoya.

this will be debated forever and it's really personal preference.

All I know is that they will always be very close.

For example if you have Hopkins as #40 on your all time great list, Jones will be #41, or vice versa.

Jones...if Hopkins had beat Toney in his prime in the same manner Jones beat Hopkins & Toney in his prime i'd rank them about even. Jones being floored is bad but atleast he was fighting, even as a Hopkins fan his antics towards the end of trying to get breaks and rest in all his big PPV fights including against way past it Jones in that rematch, is somewhat of a stain on his legacy just as Jones being floored is to his legacy.

Roy Jones.... Bernard Hopkins has a better resume & longevity, but Roy Jones as a fighter was more exciting and memorable

                Huge difference here.

Hopkins was "ONE" of the best MW's of all time.

Jones was "ONE" of if not the greatest fighters of all time. It's either him or Ray Robinson.

I don't know how you can compare one of the greatest MW's of all time to the greatest fighter of all time.

That's like comparing one of the greatest shooting guards (i.e Reggie Miller) to Michael Jordan.

I think it's obvious that the guys picking Hopkins were born in the late 80's to mid 90's. No doubt in my mind that's the age group we're dealing with here.

Anyone that lived in the Jones era knows that this debate isn't even debatable on who the greater fighter was.

Jones held belt in several divisions at the same damn time. Hopkins was mainly a MW.

Talk to me when Hopkins becomes the undisputed SMW/LHVWT champion or even the heavyweight champ after starting his career as a JMW. I don't care if he beat Ruiz for the belt. It doesn't matter because of the weight difference.

That's like Pac coming to the ring at 147 and fighting a light heavyweight for his belt.

I remember a time when Roy walked to the ring with about 20 something championship belts all at the same damn time. He needed about 7 guys to carry his belts who all had about 2-3 belts each. It was crazy.

                  No comparison here.

Roy Jones Jr hands down...put Hopkins in there with a decent ref and he has about 5 DQ losses more...

For the record, people ask the same questions about BHop. So that's not any indication at all.
The funny thing is that Roy Jones was not even a huge PPV draw.
