Both have had truely great careers. Roy with his unstoppable rain going 50-0 if you do not count his DQ. While BHOP had his 20 title defenses at middle weight. Both proved to be.two of the best fighters of the 90's; Roy moving from junior-middleweight to heavyweight and BHOP from 20 middleweight title defenses to becoming the oldest man to win a legit title!

Hopkins aged better and has a stronger body of work. I'll give him that.

But I give more weight to the overall skills and abilities and level of dominance of Jones in his prime.

Hopkins middleweight reign is no More impressive than Calzaghe at sm , if it wasn't for Hopkins lh campaign and the age he did it at this wouldn't even be debatable . The decent names on Hopkins mw resume were all blown up ww and lm

Nothing against B Hop but 20 years from now, only a few watch his MW title defenses but I'm sure as hell that people will be looking on how awesome RJ was back then.

Because Roy Jones, Leonard and Hagler are famous fighters with mainstream appeal. That is to say, the casual fans only know about them and are ******ed enough to compare them

Leonard was a welterweight at his best and Hagler was 1 or 2 divisions below Roy's prime weight, depending on who you ask.

For the record, people ask the same questions about BHop. So that's not any indication at all.

No doubt Hopkins in my mind. Because of his MW reign, his record and the fact that he became the oldest world champion of a world-renouned organization, beating Foreman's achievement- that's the icing on the cake and something I don't think Jones could ever match. Jones is one of the greats, but Hopkins is more than that, he's a boxing legend.

Jones wasn't really a great boxer, he was an amazing athelete. Hopkins was, and still is, a great boxer.

Roy Jones was the better fighter in his prime but B-Hop has the more decorated resume.

So it depends on how you define "greater".

The answer is clearly Roy, but people like to knock him down in rankings because he gets knocked out when he's shot.
