People get so hung up on perceived skill, technique and defence that they don't appreciate a style such as Rios'. Don't get me wrong, I wish he'd work behind a f-cking jab and move his head a little more but this kid has already been in some classics already - Peterson, Acosta, Alvarado.
It's the same reason I like Maidana and Margarito. Whatever their technical shortcomings, these guys bring it.Comment

Agree with your post, people like to crap on guys like Rios but they are only ignorant to certain dimensions of skills in boxing and see everything as black and white. Yeah the guy has pretty crappy defense, but he does a lot of good things in the ring. The guy throws short, compact punches, he's attacks the body fiercely, and he's an excellent inside fighter. He likes to sit on his punches which is why he's able to generate so much power, unlike a lot of "pure boxers" who look pretty, but throw nothing but pitty patty arm punches.Comment

Yeah, I thought about putting that on the list but it was a little too short, and didn't have the intrigue of those other fights. But still a damn fun fight.
Exactly, man. It was the same thing with Margarito, who people think was a no-skilled bum with an inhuman chin - but forget how he could put excellent combinations together, worked the body fantastically, had those nasty uppercuts with each hand, always maintained his balance.Agree with your post, people like to crap on guys like Rios but they are only ignorant to certain dimensions of skills in boxing and see everything as black and white. Honestly, if you're not a slickster, then you've got no skills, according to NSB.
Whereas to me, this is the great thing about boxing - the distinct range of styles.Comment
