It irratated me to no end during the height of Pacmania how Roach acted as if he could still treat Pac like the same poor little Filipino boy that walked in his gym over a decade ago. Roach is a total attention whore that has been completely exposed over the last year or so as being completely overrated. Pac, Chavez Jr, Khan, and Linares have all gotten their asses kicked under the watch of the "greatest trainer ever.". And in many of those fights, Roach's inability to put more importance on defensive responsibility and make in-fight adjustments were on display. Roach is nothing but your run-of-the-mill cat with a towel hanging over his shoulder that was simply fortunate enough to own the gym that one of the greatest fighters in history just happen to walk in first when he came to America.

most trainers and people in general want attention and feed off fame, also i think anyone who knows anything about boxing would admit that he took manny from a very good fighter to a great fighter. manny always had the skill and talent but roach taught him to throw more than a straight left and actually did a decent job with his defense. that being said roach is a offensive trainer, he likes a fighter that can take a punch, and that's why a guy like khan lost under him, but khan also got knocked in the first round against a nobody before him, and became a world champion with roach.
chavez admitted that his dad was in his head to much during his last fight, not to mention im pretty sure roach didnt tell him to go out there and throw no punches for the first 11 rounds.
almost all fighters lose, is roach overrated, maybe, is he the best trainer ever, probably not, but he has earned his success. most successful people get a bit of luck at some point and for roach that was manny walking into his gym, and same could be said for manny walking into his gym.

Just retire Manny, your heart is obviously not in this anymore.

Wouldn't be at all surprised if Marquez wins by UD this time.

Roach didn't take Pac from very good to great. Pac was gonna be great regarless of who trained him. As for his newfound right hand. He only seems to remember to throw it when he's got a completely overwhelmed opponent in front of him. I've been following Pac forever. I saw him fight live on the Lewis-Tyson undercard. And IMO, when he's in a competitive fight, he's still the same jab, jab, straight left hand fighter he's always been. Obviously, he's more polished now, that's natural. But as for him being better because of something Roach did, I aint buying it.

Setting the stage for the excuse after a bad performance. I think they are trying to kill any and all hopes of a Mayweather fight once and for all.
