Comments Thread For: Froch on Mack: Nothing To Gain, Everything To Lose

Carl Froch admits he has "everything to lose" when he defends his IBF super-middleweight title against unfancied American Yusaf Mack next month.

The Nottingham veteran defends his belt for the first time on November 17 after becoming a three-time world champion by obliterating Lucian Bute in May.

Froch was a betting underdog against Bute but finds himself regarded as the overwhelming favourite against Philadelphian Mack, who has never beaten an elite fighter and is dropping down in weight for the bout.

Even the self-styled 'Cobra' admits he knows little about the low-profile challenger but is well aware he cannot take Mack lightly when they meet at Nottingham's Capital FM Arena. [Click Here To Read More]

Don't know why this fight was made, plenty of better options out there.

Pointless fight. I was hoping that Froch would make a pit stop to 175 and take Cleverly's title, maing him a 2 weight champion. Cleverly supposedly was looking for that fight, but it just depends on who you believe.

Mack is just pointless though, he got stopped by Cloud at 175 and Froch is fighting him at 168???

This fight is pointless as is Cleverly's fight.

At least Nathan fighting in America is a little more credible as he might boost his reputation even if just slightly.

Froch has earned a 'easy' hometown fight after what he has done recently.

Froch has fought elite opponents for the last several years so it's surprising that he's 'stepping down' the level of competition in Yusaf Mack. It's like a tuneup fight but after blitzing highly touted Lucian Bute, what's there to tuneup?...

After that tough road, it doesnt matter if it is a pointless match or a tuneup or a stay busy fight. He deserves it and he can do whatever he wants to.

im sure carl would have gone str8 back to canada and rinsed bute in the return but bute's people prob asked for an interim fight to rebuild his confidence.
going back to canada WITHOUT the world title wont be as lucrative but carl still has to keep busy so it makes perfect sense.
mack is durable and solid and given how easily bute capitulated im sure carl wants to feel like he has to work his opponent out and break him down given that bute will probably fight a more defensive fight next time out. as for cleverly...promoted by warren ...a man with a track record of screwing up careers and rumoured to be pretty poor at paying his fighters on time ...given that he would have wanted options on carl WHEN he smacked cleverly about...would YOU have let Carl sign if you were Eddie Hearn? I wouldnt! bad business all round. carl can stretch his legs in nottingham and then go back to canada and make a decent wedge in the spring. final job to be done is to avenge kessler who by that time should have abraham's wbo belt and its mission complete and step aside for the next generation of Super middles.

Mack isn't really durable though and he's coming down in weight.

Wouldn't be surprised if this one was over faster than the destruction of Bute.

                    Contractually, Carl had no choice.

Also, negotiations with Kessler broke down. They'll likely fight mid-2013.
