Comments Thread For: Arum Says Rios-Alvarado Winner in Line For Big Fights

On Wednesday afternoon Top Rank CEO Bob Arum could be found inside of the Fortune Gym in Hollywood, California, playing host to an open media workout for this weekend’s HBO-televised double header at the Home Depot Center in Carson, California.

The card will be highlighted by IBF/WBO junior featherweight champion Nonito Donaire facing off with dangerous southpaw and former titleholder Toshiaki Nishioka while a mouthwatering junior welterweight duel will see former WBA lightweight kingpin Brandon Rios rise in weight to face off with the formidable Mike Alvarado of Denver, Colorado.

The winner will first have to get checked for brain damage.

Abril committed career suicide by fighting Rios. Do I think he won the fight? Yes. But the way he fought gave the judges an easy out to give the fight to Rios. Now, nobody is really going to want to fight Abril. He's a awkward technician that's rather hard to hit, that has almost no drawing power. Why would any blue chip fighter ever want to fight this guy? There's too much risk and almost no reward. So does he "deserve" it? In an idealistic world, sure. But boxing is a cut-throat industry and Abril is going nowhere fast.

I'm just excited Rios/Alvarado got made. This is one of those few instances where I don't even care about looking past this fight because THIS is the fight.

Not true....he is fighting blue chip prospect and undefeated Sharif Bogere in 3 weeks. And if Rios beats Alvarado, Rios should settle the score with Abril to make things right.

How do you go from being on a Nonito Donaire undercard to fighting Pacquiao in your next fight?
