Yes he did.
Overall I think this was a very entertaining fight to watch, I don't think it was at all the shutout that some people described, nor was it the barn-burner some predicted.
Neither man had too many real eyegrabbing moments in the fight, and did not land too many right hands - infact Haye probably shaded both the latter, but Wlad won because of his excellent ring generalship, he managed to force Haye to fight out of his comfort zone for the majority of the fight, limiting him to wild amateurish swings. He followed a gameplan devised by Steward almost without fault and it deservedly got him the win.
1. Wlad minimized the openings for Haye to attack
2. Kept him on the backfoot and off-balance
3. Refused to engage and give Haye an oppertunity to floor him
He fought the fight at range at his distance
In the words of Emmanuel Steward they 'completely shut him down stylistically'
Haye was a difficult opponent for Wlad, he had a lot of attributes that could have caused him problems, but Wlad handled him well and Haye/Booths lack of a plan B hurt him badly.
I came out of this fight having greater respect for both mens abilities - Haye because I thought he would be absolutely jabbed to death and lulled into taking right hand after right hand ala most of Wlads other opponents, while I felt he coped very well with Wlads jab, avoiding most of or rolling with them even though they were excellently thrown.
And I was very impressed with Wlads speed - as I'm sure Haye was, he kept in step with him throughout the fight, he's a genuine athlete.
In short I think both mens performance was underrated, they each did subtle things very well.
"He also took a good shot in round five. It was a terrific shot and he showed great durability to soak that up. But he just wasn't able to come back; he was diving in from too far out and Klitschko was taking the sting out of all his punches, not even letting him hit him because he wasn't close enough. That's not David's style of fighting."
"I agreed with what Lennox said earlier, he needed to get in close and throw a shot, roll a shot, throw a shot to try and get the fight out of Wladimir. That's because he didn't do that that's why he was reaching in; he was coming up ahort and that's why as the fight went on, he was become more and more desperate. Wladimir still kept his composure with a nice snappy jab, nice right hand and he kept him off his balance - even when he came in close. David showed excellent courage but his tactics just didn't work."Comment

i think hbo/sho should try and hire tyson for color commentary. he always has his own honest opinion and he's such a student of the game. he's very well-spoken and provides insight that most fighters can't. he's pretty much faced any kind of adversity a fighter can. whether it be against an opponent or opposing media. i always love hearing what he has to say as it never comes across insincere. you can tell he's a hardcore fan at heart who still follows/knows the sport like alot of us on here.
it would probably help ratings too as far as casual fans go.Comment

Well people saying how Klitschkos wouldn't be as good in other HW era so this is very interesting and valuable opinion from the one of the bests.
Tyson said that Klitschkos would be very hard to beat for any champions in any era and he made a good point about vitali and lennox fight that lennox went through life and death. Yes he still won (fair and square) but at no mean he was dominant.
Opinions coming from the past bests that are speaking without agendas carry an extra weight.Comment

He's worked on SHO a couple times back in the day I think...I know for sure he was on the SHO crew that called Vincent Pettway vs Simon Brown.i think hbo/sho should try and hire tyson for color commentary. he always has his own honest opinion and he's such a student of the game. he's very well-spoken and provides insight that most fighters can't. he's pretty much faced any kind of adversity a fighter can. whether it be against an opponent or opposing media. i always love hearing what he has to say as it never comes across insincere. you can tell he's a hardcore fan at heart who still follows/knows the sport like alot of us on here.

Good interview, Mike has retained some of Cus's knowledge and wisdom.
Nah he's too honest for that. He was ringside during the Cotto/Mayorga fight and said the fight was too slow and they weren't really trying to hurt each other. They know he's not gonna kiss the fighters asses so they won't hire him anytime soon.i think hbo/sho should try and hire tyson for color commentary. he always has his own honest opinion and he's such a student of the game. he's very well-spoken and provides insight that most fighters can't. he's pretty much faced any kind of adversity a fighter can. whether it be against an opponent or opposing media. i always love hearing what he has to say as it never comes across insincere. you can tell he's a hardcore fan at heart who still follows/knows the sport like alot of us on here.

Great to hear Tyson respecting the Klitschko's.
And he's right, Haye should be an active fighter, but he's simply not. He only wants the mega fightsComment
