  • Is Andre Ward being overrated for his performance against weight-drained Dawson?

While I think Ward is an exceptionally talented boxer I'm wondering if he's being prematurely elevated because of performance against Chad Dawson, who was undoubtedly weight-drained in their fight.

Ward's best performance to me was the Froch fight because he won most of the early rounds but even in that fight Froch came on strong towards the end and actually claimed most of the championship rounds.

Against Kessler, to me there's no doubt that the headbutts played a significant part in the outcome and they were just too numerous to be purely accidental in my opinion. So the Kessler win is marred by the headbutt controversy, at least in my view (obviously everyone won't agree unanimously).

Now when it comes to the Abraham fight, Froch put on a more dominant performance against Abraham than Ward did, I'm pretty sure most people would agree with that one, at least everyone I talked to so far saw it the same way.

But since the Dawson win, I've seen people completely ignore the fact that Dawson was weight-drained and they behave as if Ward fought the same version of Dawson as B-Hop and Pascal did. To me that's far from reality, I think Ward fought just a shadow of the real Dawson.

Dawson wasn't weight-drained so Ward deserves full credit for the win

Even though Dawson was weight-drained, Ward still deserves the credit he's getting

It's more like Dawson being overrated. Ward is getting the recognition he deserves for his dominance in his division. He defended HIS belt against a challenger. It's not his problem if they're weight drained or not. Don't challenge a lion if you're a big house cat. It's not gunna go well...and it didnt.

How is Froch doing better than Ward vs Abraham even relevant? Ward dominated both. He made them look like they were undeserving challengers.... Froch was so frustrated he couldnt wait for the fight to be over.

You're probably kidding, I'm sure this is a bait thread. Sadly though, there are a good many number of nationalist fans who started suffering from rectal discomfort when Ward took Kessler apart. Some of the most bitter, childish, pathetic stuff ever seen on a boxing forum.

Dawson drained?? You're a funny guy, FL.

You know how it goes, whenever a fighter just wins they're invincible for a while on forums, win every fantasy match up, are the greatest ever etc. etc.

Over rated by some. Under rated by some.

Ward didn't win by a close decision.

He won by pretty dominate fashion.

I won't say the drop to 168 didn't affect Dawson. It did.

But Ward went out, and stopped him.

If Dawson goes out and wins that fight, he is probably first ballot Hall of Fame bound, and in the upper half of the P4P rankings of the "experts" on here.

            But he didn't.

He got dropped three times, and quit.

            Them's the breaks.

              Obvious troll thread.

The guy wins the Super Six AND he defends his belt against the best light heavyweight in the world. Yet people still try to find ways to take credit away from him.

I'm not sure what you mean by troll thread but while Ward won the Super Six, his performance against Abraham wasn't as good as Frochs, his performance against Green wasn't as good as Kesslers, he had the easiest route to the final (because he fought Green) plus he had home advantage for the entire tournament which just shouldn't have happened and to me diminishes the achievement greatly.

Then, he goes on to fight a severely weight-drained Chad Dawson.

I recognize Ward's talent, I just think there are a lot of factors you overlooked when you made your statement.

Who cares how Froch looked against Abraham? Ward whipped Froch when they met head to head, with a broken hand!

And if you take the headbutts out of it Kessler was getting clearly outclassed by Andre. He didn't need them to win.

Nobody can just win on this forum fair and square and be credited this place never changes.

Dawson didn't have to accept the fight but he did, he is the #1 LHW in the world but Ward outclassed, beat up, and made him quit right there in the ring.

It could easily be considered one of the best recent wins any fighter has had in any division.
