    Clip: Toney vs Jirov revisited

With his right eye swelling shut, Jirov came out firing and opened strong with another salvo of punches before pinning Toney against the ropes. The challenger continued to roll away from shots but Jirov landed while smothering Toney's blows. Toney remained poised and with 1:53 to go in 12th, he nailed the champion with yet another punishing right hand to the face. Toney followed up with three more ripping right hands as he slid along the ropes and continued to score. At the 1:43 mark, Toney set his feet, and hammered Jirov with a screaming right hand to the head. Jirov rocked back on his heels but dropped his hands even further as he tried to outmuscle the challenger. Fighting out of the corner and on the ropes, Toney nailed the champion with three consecutive left hooks just above the belt line. The blows almost caught Jirov in the back as he continued to swing and miss. Toney increased the leverage with each shot and the blood seemingly drained from the champion's face. Jirov's hands dropped, Toney slid along the ropes, and then unloaded three more ferocious withering blows that caught the champion square in the face. Jirov staggered forward and Toney hammered him with a crushing right uppercut to the jaw. The effect was if he had been hit by a waffle iron and Jirov tumbled face first to the deck.

After crashing to the canvas, Jirov struggled to his feet with blood trickling from both his eyes and out of his nostrils. He staggered to an upright position and managed to remain vertical for the last few moments of the contest. With the crowd standing and cheering, Toney raised his gloves in victory.

Those body shots really took their toll on Jirov. What a fight that was. I have it on tape although the recording is horrible. Jirov opened himself up for those body shots and Toney was smart enough to take advantage.

Boxing fans owe a guy like Jirov for that fight, he made that fight!

In 12 rounds he gave us more action, more heart and more effort-what a god damn animal...he is paying for it now but Jirov is a guy that should have everybody respect!

Jones Jr. is lucky he did not fight that version of VJ (around this time), Roy like Toney would have had to go thru hell to win and if I was a bettin man I would bet that Roy folds long before hell!

Toney and Mayweather are easily the two smartest punchers in boxing right now, that I know of. They don't waste many punches, and they're very smart about going to the body. You don't see many fighters that can read their opponents movements so well that every punch lands flush like that.

That was an awesome fight. If Toney didn't get that knockdown he should have lost. The fight was close but I had Jirov eaking it out till the knockdown. They should have rematched and put on another great fight. Could of been some good money to be made if they did.

The beating and effort that was taken by Jirov was a 1 time deal similiar to Taylor against Chavez-Jirov and Taylor were never going to fight at the same level again.

Jirov would have been pulverized in a remtach against Toney-it would not have even been close!

I sat next to Chjris Byrd and his wife at this fight, about three rows from the ring and at the casino the way it is set up the chairs on the statge are eye level with he fighters dso it is a thing where if I was in the front row I could literally lean over and touch a fighter in the ring while he is fighting. This was a great fight up close and the place was buzzing. In the 12th round when James started to come back on Jirov I found myself ****ing Chris on the shoulder yelling "He got him he got him!!")

Possibly, but a lot of Jirov's decline was moving up in weight. He just can't handle it. A lot of his strength was volume of punches and at heavy he didn't have the stamina to continually punch non stop.
