Three-time world champion Erik 'El Terrible' Morales has been wearing a puncher's glove, Reyes, while training to take on Manny Pacquiao in Top Rank's big "The Battle" Pay-Per-View on Jan. 21 at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas. Morales, who usually wears Winning gloves, has made the switch while working out with his new trainer, Jose Luis 'Maestro' Sr., while training in Mexico. Gloves were a big issue in the first Morales vs. Pacquiao fight. By contract, both fighters wore Winning. After the fight Freddie Roach, chief trainer for Pacquiao, said "those were the wrong kind of gloves for Manny." For this fight, each fighter has a choice of gloves.

Morales is definitely going for the kill but he's risking hand injury. LOL, this gloves issue is getting more controversial.

can any of you guys fill me in on the differnce between reyes gloves and many of the other gloves on the market?

reyes gloves are the punchers glove....Champion gloves are softer and bigger(weight the same though)i truly dont kno wat the differences are inside the glove....maybe reyes uses harder materials or suttin....

Its not harder material, its smaller gloves and with less padding on the knuckles.

i think morales is pissed about getting schooled by rahim, he's gonna take it out on poor manny, i think this fight will be a real stand and trade affair with each guy trying to be el mas macho. someone's gonna have brain damage after this fight

from what other trainers and glove manufacturers have said:

Besides the way they fit, grant, winning, and Reyes, puncher status depends on the fighter who wears them, In fact some punchers have begun to wear Grant gloves and the Grant says they are willing to bet that if they punched you with the Reyes glove and the Grant glove you would realize that now you would much rather be hit by the Reyes. Grant and Winnings designs have both been more punchers styles as of late... years back Reyes was THE punchers glove and everybody elses gloves were softer, but now it really comes down to a fighters fit and comfort inside the glove.

Also Erik Morales actually prefers Reyes gloves but they dont allow the same type of wrapping of the hands as they do in Mexico, and thus hurt hands are much more common and his hands dont fit the gloves as well.

Floyd, ODLH, Morales, and Fenech have all experienced the same.
