Dawson was definitely weight drained. There's no doubt about that. However:

Ward was an absolute 10 in this fight. He was brilliant.

He looked good if not great. Question is how much stock to put into beating a weighdrained opponent who was KO'ed in sparring the previous week though.

trust me when i say this, there is no way in hell dawson's trainer or manager would send him into the fight if he were knocked out by edison miranda in sparring

it's very easy to come up with a fake injury to push off a fight, or cancel it altogether.

and can you just imagine how loud miranda would have been if he were to stop dawson in sparring?
he'd crash the last ward - dawson presser, the way he did when taylor was fighting spinks,

The KO has been confirmed by people witnessing the incident.

As for Miranda not crashing the presser, well he had a fight in Britain himself.

Another thing is that I am sure Miranda would never again work as a sparring partner for anyone if he revealed secrets from camp. That is a no-go.

the people pushing the story are miranda's handlers and some guy who claims dawson shorted his fighter on sparring money (three or four grand, i think.) they're not neutral. no neutral sources have come out and said it.

if he were knocked out cold he wouldn't be ready for a fight a week later. i've never been out cold, but i've seen it plenty. you go to a hospital and go under observation. there would be medical records for all of this. he wouldn't be cleared to fight.

the signs point to all of that just being a rumor.

additionally, dawson was a top 10 p4p fighter at the time, and the LHW champion of the world. losing a few paychecks from sparring sessions would amount to a whole lot less than the fights he'd be able to get into if he were to actually knock dawson cold in sparring. he probably gets a few grand to spar. if he gets back on HBO or showtime he's looking at a six figure payday.

Why hasn't Dawson's camp been out cathegorically denying the incident? Surely if it didn't happen they would be vigilant in saying so and exposing the sources as liars.

I agree that dawson shouldn't have been allowed to fight and I questioned that myself when the rumours first surfaced, but I am quite sure it was swept under the rug as some kind of 'regular' sparring incident as nobody wanted to miss out on the career high pay check.

The rumors have been circulating for weeks. Did Edison Miranda drop Chad Dawson during a sparring session? According to Miradana's trainer, Miguel Diaz, the incident happened. For a few weeks in Las Vegas, the two fighters were training together for their respective fights on September 8th. Dawson was getting prepared for a fight with WBA/WBC super middleweight champion Andre Ward at the Oracle Arena in Oakland, and Miranda was heading to London to face British light heavyweight Tony Bellew. Both Dawson and Miranda suffered TKO defeats.
