Comments Thread For: Roach: Chavez Was One Punch Away From a KO Win

Trainer Freddie Roach takes some of the blame for Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.'s lopsided defeat last Saturday night at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas. Sergio Martinez, now the WBC middleweight champion, easily swept the first eleven rounds of the fight. It was only in the twelfth round when Chavez (46-1-1, 32KOs) finally let his hands go and dropped Martinez hard. Martinez was stunned badly and seemed to be out on his feet, but Chavez couldn't finish him.

Looking at fighters like Martinez shows why Khan will never be at the top of the game. You can box beautifully and get caught, at the end of the day Martinez handled himself well and recovered well after the knock down.

A lot of boxers were one punch away from a KO win and they just couldn't make it, that's boxing. Either way he failed his drug test, so he wouldn't have won.

Nah Anabolic steroids are ok, so I'm sure a bit of pot isn't going to have a result changed...
