An unbiased Perspective on Chavez vs Martinez and possible rematch.

Here are a few things I took in the aftermath of the Martinez vs Chavez.

    1. Martinez clearly dominated for 11 rounds. Never gave Chavez a static target. Moved, and boxed the perfect fight.
    2. Chavez didn't have his legs. He seemed to be plodding after Martinez. Very flat footed and not cutting off the ring. Probably had something to do with the knee brace he had on.
    3. Whether it was Martinez's strategy to move a lot that caused his fatigue in the later rounds, what little Chavez did throughout rounds was enough to get Martinez to the point to where he was weak enough to get knocked down the way he did.
    4. Martinez's power made Chavez gun shy. He may not have had power to hurt him, but he kept Chavez honest.
    5. Chavez's extreme weight loss to make 160 leaves him too weak to bend his knees and move his waist.
    6. Martinez exaggerated use of the jab in the later half of the fight showed he probably did break his hand early in the fight.
    7. A rematch would either yield the same results or possibly something similar to Jones Jr. vs Tarver 1,2. I'm not going to go into details or say they're exactly similar situations but for thoes who know, there are very interesting points to draw comparrisons.

What are your guys thoughts? Please lets keep this about boxing and leave the insults for another thread.

a rematch is def not worthy at this point but I'm sure Sergio will take it since it will be easy $$$ in the bank. Chavez tries to engage more, leaves him much more open to the dreaded counter punches martinez will deliver.

Chavez is just not that type of fighter.. hes a good average fighter who dominates most of the fighters in his divison on just size alone.

Id love to see Sergio move on and take on Cotto, Canelo or Floyd... but he can make good $$$$ on a rematch, just for the delusional fight fans that think one minute of dominance overshadows 11 full rounds of a beatdown

Chavez wasn't plodding, he's just really that limited and Martinez that fast. This is what happens when he encounters resistance in the form of 900+ punches lol

Great points, especially #5. Chavez is draining himself and the effects are becoming glaringly obvious now, especially against a guy like Sergio who utilizes a lot of athleticism. Jr's lack of confidence in his skills is probably what's keeping him down at MW. The extra 8lbs would do him a lot of good.

I think it was a great effort by Martinez but I don't think it would be ideal to go for the rematch. Sergio will be ~6 months older and he would have to stick to the same taxing game plan in the ring facing an opponent that can knock him out while he doesn't have the power to put Chavez down.

I think we'd pretty much watch the same fight unless Roach or whoever gonna coach Chavez can come up with an actual plan instead of the *be the heavy bag and wait for a mistake* tactic that we saw now.
