Comments Thread For: Rigondeaux is Happy To Fight, Will Look For More Money

Wynn Hotel & Casino, Las Vegas- WBA super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux is thrilled to be able to defend his title on Saturday night against Roberto Marroquin. Boxingscene recently caught up with the two time Olympic gold medal winner who admitted that at times he didn't think the fight would push through.

"I kept training for the fight but at times I wasn't sure the fight would happen. Thanks to God it is going to happen but at a few different times I thought I wasn't going to get to fight. Thankfully we got everything worked out," stated Rigondeaux.

Peanuts? Rigo's my favorite fighter but I have to take issue with that statement. Rafael reporting he's getting 150k to fight a prospect, not exactly peanuts. Hopefully its on to bigger fights after this.

He might've been talking about the type of fights he's been getting. He's craving for those big fights. He probably expected with a belt to be fighting better opponents. And from what I understand he would be making much better money with GBP.

Maybe he has an exaggerated idea of what he ought to be getting paid at this stage, maybe he's just crying poverty...maybe. But, consider this, Rigo was originally getting paid 100k, before Hyde pitched a bitch. It didn't take long for Top Rank to up the offer 50% to 150k. Seems like they were holding out on him to me.

I'm glad to see him back in the ring. I fully believe he is a top 5 P4P talent, but unfortunately he can't get the fights to prove that. I'm personally happy to watch him fight anyone though.

Rigo's popularity is growing very fast due to the excitement he brings to the ring. Plus, he is a title holder. He justly deserves a name opponent and more money at this point IMO.
