No way he is more sound than guys like Bernard Hopkins or James Toney. Those guys have proven there skills and techniques over years and against legit world class competion.
In terms of raw technical skill I think Cotto is a step below. He is still very young and he could refine his abilities. Hop and JT are just so experienced and crafty that they know what to do in almost any situation. Toney is a much better defensive fighter and is a better counter puncher...Hop is much better at picking his opponents apart slowly. They both have that old school style and toughness that sets them apart from other fighters...something that Cotto doesn't have.

Kostya Tszyu's power is head and shoulders better than Gatti's. There not even in the same class in skills or power in my opnion

Gatti's power has gotten highly overrrated lately. People think Gatti is a huge puncher because he fights 4th rate guys and comes into the fight 10-15lbs heavier than the guy he fighting. Who has Gatti KO'ed recently that was worth anything? and no im not impressed by him beating a 5'3 lightweight.

Gatti is not an A level fighter, while Tszyu is one of the 3 best at 140 in the past 25 years.

Gatti would be the much easier fight for Cotto.

good points, Gatti's power is overrated. I remember what he said b4 fighting DLH, "he has never been in the ring with a hard hitter like me" LMAO WTF? What about Trinidad? Gatti is crazy

That explains what happened. Although he did make Oscar's nose bleed if that counts for anything.

wait i thought gatti could do that-cant he?i am talking about the weight..i thought you just had to make weight and then you could go up...but i understand what ur saying..look at santos coming in 10 pound heavier then margarito in there fight (and still could ko or drop margarito but was getting hurt)..but anyway is that illegal or something for u to had weight for fight..i didnt think so but whatever

i think cotto will have problems with guys that are strong and can come in from the right side good like S. mitchelle...but besides that i can see him beating alot of other fighter

i wanna see KT vs floyd...i dont care what anyone saids..corley shook floyd a couple of times and KT is faster/stronger/better abilities..then corley
I feel Cotto being so technically sound, much more than KT would exploit's KT's limited defence and mobility. KT is also older now. The more Cotto waits the more likely the chance someone is gonna steal the glory by beating him to a KT win.
