Comments Thread For: DiBella: Martinez Has Significant Upside in Chavez Bout

Lou DiBella, promoter for Sergio Martinez (49-2-2, 28Kos), does not believe his boxer was financially shorted in the upcoming fight with WBC middleweight king Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (46-0-1, 32KOs) - taking place on Saturday night at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas.

Of course he's gonna say that because he negotiated that crummy deal for his boxer.

DiBella just stating the obvious. Chavez is the A side of this fight even though he shouldn't be. If team Martinez made more demands this fight would have never happened.

Chavez Jr. is the bigger draw though. Plain and simple. This fight was never 50/50, in terms of money. I also don't believe its 50/50, in terms of the actual fight. Martinez is going to dominate Jr. come Saturday.

In reality it's not a bad deal. Martinez is most likely making anywhere from $3-5 per PPV. If that's the case, and if this event does the expected 500,000 buys, then Martinez is expected to make an additional $1.5 - $2.5 million dollars! Considering that Martinez is not a big draw, the guaranteed purse of $1.4 mil plus the potential PPV income really turns out to be a lot of money!
