Comments Thread For: Miguel Vazquez-Marvin Quintero Purse Bid on Sept. 18

Contrary to some of the published reports, promoter Gary Shaw disputes that Marvin Quintero (25-3, 21KOs) is fighting IBF lightweight champion Miguel Vazquez (31-3, 13KOs) on September 29th in Tijuana, Mexico.

Quintero is the mandatory challenger to Vazquez. According to Shaw, he rejected an offer from Vazquez's team and requested an immediate purse bid. The IBF has scheduled that purse bid for September 18th.

This is more BS. Quintero gets Knocked out by Attah, comes back and beats a nobody named Al and now he's a mandatory? It's the politics and manipulation that hurt the sport. Al Supabupa shows up with a gaudy home grown record, Quintero draws the lucky ticket to expose Al, and now he's the mandatory? We all know how this is going to end. Who's next for Vazquez? And please, no more mandatories if they're going to be like this.

Quintero fought Daniel Attah two years ago and has won FIVE fights in a roll since then! That's not too bad.

The only name on that 5 fight streak is Al Suberban and the only people who recognize his existance, is the IBF. How does that elevate you to Mandatory? These are not life time achievement awards, they're not supposed to be doled out just because he hangs around beating nobodies, especially if he lost everytime he stepped up the competition.

This is not as bad as it looks. I agree on what your saying but you can't hate on a guy who's getting a tittle shot the right way. Quintero went through the process to get that tittle shot, won a tittle eliminater vs AL mannylookalike. If you want to cry...go cry to the IBF. I seen WORST...huh? JOSESITO LOPEZ getting a tittle shot at 154?

Ronald Hearns getting a shot at the WBA tittle vs Felix Sturm,,,. Then months later getting a shot at the WBC tittle vs Julio Cesar Chavez jr...(fight cancelled because of Jr. injury) I CAN GO ON BUT I WON"T.

Quintero is a solid fighter and deserves the tittle shot. And plus he's not a boring fighter. He's out their to BRAWL and might give el titere problems. Should be a great fight! I wouldn't miss it.

That's right it's all politics. TR promised Gesta a title and they told them to keep it quiet but Gesta and Broner stardted calling out Vasquez with hopes of sealing the deal. While the promoters tried to due a number on Vazquez and interrupt his training hoping this way they can deliver the title to either Gesta or Broner. Since things didn't work out for them Vazquez's chance to fight in the Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. Card was turned down. Looking to make some money GSP makes a petty offer for Vazquez to fight on his show cause he was turned down as a promoter. This is what happens in boxing and the consumer gets ripped off just like the real talented boxers.
