it took him 41 fights to take a risk and that was against the impotent jeff lacy. You should give lacy a lot of credit for increasing calzaghe's confidence. without that easy win over an overhyped guy joe never would have fought kessler or hopkins. unfortunately his confidence soon returned to its normal levels afte fighting hopkins and he retired in shame. nice little 2 year career though.

Unfortunately, if Joe did beat Ward, you'd say Ward is also impotent and overhyped. That's disgusting

Pathetic of Ward's team. Might as well call out Ali as well while you're at it. Jesus doesnt need to beat up on old men to win fights. Jesus wants the winner of Sergio v Fatcow. Joe beat every man put in front of him and is fat and retired now. Jesus doesnt need that fight.

how was lacy not overhyped? what great fighters did he beat before or after? what great talent did he show before or after? he beat 1 top 10 guy(number 8 rated reid) and struggled with mediocre fighters like sheika and donnell wiggins. how is he comparable to ward who's beaten the best guy in his division twice, best guy at 175, and 3 other top 10 fighters while hardly losing a round. i don't get it.

To some of the people saying Ward is already ahead of Joe Calzaghe.
I wanna make a few points here. First off I do believe that Andre Ward WILL surpass Joe and will end up being a better fighter then Calzaghe as well. Ward is a future ATG (I really believe so).

But let's take a look real quick at Ward's 3-4 best wins against some notable wins of Calzaghe's.

The Carl Froch of Super Six vs the Hopkins of Calzaghe-Pavlik-Pascal fights.

Does anyone here really think Froch would have beaten the Hopkins that beat Pavlik? I don't, I see a 8-4 UD for Hopkins. He would have neutralized Froch.

Mikell Kessler of Ward Fight against the Kessler of Calzaghe fight. This is a no brainer. Anyone who thinks that Ward fought the better Kessler is probably just bias.

The Arthur Abraham that Andre Ward beat against the past Prime but still dangerous Chris Eubank that Calzaghe beat. I see a 50-50 here, probably give Eubank the edge, despite him being past his best.

And finally the 168 Drained Dawson against either Lacy or the shot to pieces Roy Jones that fought Calzaghe. I actually think the shot to pieces Roy that lost to Calzaghe could have beaten the 168 version of Dawson that Ward just fought. Dawson barely had strength to throw punches, at least Roy and Lacy pressured Calzaghe at times and Roy even got him down.

Once again, I am almost 100% certain Ward will SURPASS Calzaghe when his career is finished. But let's not over do this and bash Calzaghe, because when you look at some of his notable wins and compare it to some of Ward's notable wins, it's pretty similiar and the edge might even go to Calzaghe. I feel Joe Calzaghe get some hate on here for mocking a shot Roy Jones and for never leaving Wales other then to fight two old fighters. I was pissed when Calzaghe was dancing around Roy as well, I wish I could have seen a Prime Roy knock the **** out of him. As classless as that was, it does not change the facts that Calzaghe actually have a pretty decent resume compare to Ward's current Resume and that Calzaghe is a top 3 H2H 168 Pound Fighter.

Hate on Calzaghe all you want to. He is a former WBO, IBF, WBC, WBA, and Ring Super Middleweight Champion and at one time, even the Ring Light Heavyweight Champion. He was a great, very very skilled boxer. I just laugh when people try to undermine Joe's inarguable talent and achievement in the game. Like I said, at 40 years old, Joe should just enjoy his retirement because he has nothing left to prove.
