19.12.05 - By Scoop Malinowski: Rumors persist that newly-crowned WBA Heavyweight king Nicolay Valuev may make his first title defense against former four-time title challenger Andrew Golota. Golota, who gave John Ruiz and Chris Byrd all they could handle and then some, in separate 2004 title fights but was caught cold earlier this year in one round by Lamon Brewster, seemed interested in the challenge, "It would be like fighting a mountain," said the contender who has kept himself in good condition by running, lifting weights and skiing. Golota was not surprised Ruiz lost to the little-known but gigantic Russian. "Everybody's better than John Ruiz," said Golota, "But I hear Ruiz got robbed." Golota embarks on a weeklong family ski vacation in Colorado next week.

He scored a draw against Chris Byrd. A fight in which any non bias observer would have to have think he won and was robbed against John Ruiz. Golota is a force in the heavyweight divison and deserving of a title shot as anybody else. Props to the Promoters Don King and Sauerland for putting this fight on the table.
People laugh you at you McKay for saying Golota should probably be Undsiputed Heavyweight Champion but its kinda true. He definitely should have gotten the descison against Byrd and Ruiz and its definitely not beyond the realm of possiblity that he took a dive against Brewster. Now that you bring it up, it does seem sort of obvious that he did.
