Comments Thread For: Francesco Pianeta Decisions Francois Botha Over Ten

At 43, Francois "The White Buffalo" Botha can hardly experience something new in the ring, but that's exactly what happened moments ago at RWE Rhein-Ruhr Sporthalle in Muelheim, Germany. Botha, who once was the IBF world heavyweight champion for a short period before being stripped of the title for steroids, suffered all of his previous seven losses by way of knockout. It wasn't the case this time as he lost to Germany-based Italian Francesco Pianeta (27-0-1, 14 KOs) on points - for the first time in his career.

decent win for pianeta. botha is past his best but still comes to fight with what he has left. he never had great tools & his short reach was always an issue vs taller fighters. he is one of my favorites. he was involved in many good fights. pianeta has slowly stepped up his level of competition & is improving. he should be in the mix for a regional or european title.

something i didn't know until this fight. that botha\schulz was the largest television audience in german boxing history...that quite a feat lots considering the klitschkos & many other solid fighers who have been there over the years
