Vargas did excellent Vs Tito even though he lost. But i think Trinidad put the miles on Vargas` clock and De La Hoya blew the engine. I think after these fights with Tito and Oscar his inactivity of late would help him. He hasn`t fought for a while and this has to be good for him and help him recover a bit. I`m not saying that he`s fixed and back to his best but i still think he might be a force in the middleweight division. Lets see how he looks in his comeback fight, then we`ll make a judgement!
another excellent post kimmy!!
i see it the same way but as a vargas fan i'am more hopefull than most!!
He's gonna fight Verno Phillips his first fight back? I can't believe he thinks he's ready to go straight to a very good fighter in Phillips his first time back. If Phillips comes in in great shape, which is a big if with Phillips I see Vargas getting beat.
I pick Vargas. First I don´t think that he is ruined by Tito (why should he? He did very well!) and he is still a young fighter. Second I do think that Vargas is boxing in a different league (he just lost against Tito and ODLH!).
True, and in the De La Hoya fight despite losing did he show signs of being a shot fighter? Not really, Oscar was just the better fighter on the night. He used the jab to wear Vargas down and then hit him on top with his vaulted left hook.
In Vargas` fights after this he hasn`t been in with a great talent but he did what he was supposed to have done, won by convincing stoppage.
Truth is if Vargas is as good as the old, like against Quartey and Wright then he could be an excellent contender in the middleweight division, may even get a rematch with Tito or depending on Hopkins plans a fight with Nard ( I STRONGLY ADVISE VARGAS TO AVOID THIS OPTION!) But the fact is, if Vargas is still a decent fighter, he has it to win something in the middleweights!

He didnt look shot because Oscar isnt that good anymore either. That was one of the most overated fights in history. If there names werent Oscar and Vargas no one wouldve thought that was a great fight. Sure Vargas lost to Tito and Oscar but look at Vargas's other fights. He won them but hasnt looked good in any of them. He wouldve killed those guys before the Tito fight.
