The average boxingfan doesn't know what happened to Pirog. Whether he pulled out because of an injury or not can't be estimated. As long as we don't know I only judge his qualities as a fighter that I've seen so far and these are superb. Ringintelligence and skill level are outstanding.

Can't understand the statement of Pirog, he will be in Moscow at the weekend. Does he fight or will he only be ringside? He had a history of a neck injury before the Maciel fight and this same injury seemed to be the cause for pulling out against Golovkin.

Hope we see this classy fighter soon again. Usually ABC crooks let former champs quickly climb in the rankings and fight again. Not so sure they will grant this to Pirog...

Wow, so Pirog signed to face GG instead of his mandatory? Is this correct?

He had a ruptured vertebral disc and will be out for at least a few months.

Yeah, Pirog just had and optional defense against Ishida, and was supposed to fight his mandatory N'jikam next. Instead he pursued the big fight in America he'd been wanting... wasn't it supposed to be against Geale initially? Anyway... He didn't get approval from the WBO to unify, and when he got injured and pulled out of the fight they took the belt.

Some seriously harsh luck, but the WBO's action was justified IMO.

That's just tough luck. Mandatories have to be fought, and if anything Pirog should've given his mandatory some step aside money if he was going to unify. I'm a firm believer that champions should fight their mandatories though. Tough situation. Hope the kid bounces back.

Eff the WBO paper belt. The WBO stripped Martinez too because he wanted bigger money fights not on its agenda. Pirog should just take the best fight available because he has been getting nothing but crap fights since he won the paper title

                      lol no

Most important is that unifications are supposed to supersede mandatories. He tried to fight Geale and they threated to strip him. Geale pulled out to fight Sturm and Pirog tried to unify with Golovkin who was available because Sturm was allowd to unify instead of fight his mandatory Golovkin!

Pirog tried to fight HNN but he signed to fight Bursak and it was sanctioned for the interm belt....even though the champion was trying to fight his mandatory. His potential mandatory canidates avoided fighting the champion and were awarded with a interm belt for a fight may 4th. Pirog fought HNN's replacement Ishida May 1st in a fight that should have been against Bursak or HNN.

This along with them threatening to strip him for two attempted unifications, ultimately doing so, demonstrates what Pirog stated. They were looking to get rid of him any way possible.
