These threads always go like this.

Poster: Cotto was drained and weakened at the CW.
Pacfan: The CW made no difference he only lost 1lb more than his fight before.
Poster: Why did Pacquiao ask for the CW then if it made no difference?
Pacfan: Because Manny is small and it would be unfair to fight bigger fighters.
Poster: So Pacquiao does gain an advantage then?
Pacfan: No 1lb made no difference..........

          Repeat 500x

He was out of the fight by round 5, after taking a couple of punches he didn't see coming, in his own words. He then proceeded to run from the midget for 18 mins straight, which is quite a feat for a drained guy.

You clearly don't know much about this weight stuff.

When you're at you lowest weight, losing one extra pound is incredible hard because in order to weight less you have to lose some muscle mass and not just fat. Burning muscle mass is incredibly hard to do and it's something that clearly debilitates the body since it's a process done automatically when you're in a state of starvation.

So in this case if Cotto lowest weight was 147 (example) and he had to go down to 145, he had to weight drain himself by a lot of dehydration but also by burning muscle mass during training by doing even more cardio, lowering his caloric intake (also debilitating him) or both of them.

Pacquiao on the other hand actually fought ODLH at 145 pounds, and Hatton at 140, but for Pacquiao it was a lot easier to get up to 145 again because of several reasons.
First, muscle memory. Once your body has made a certain weight it's easier to get back to that weight again because of muscle memory.
Second, water weight. Pacquiao didn't have to win a lot of muscle mass (which is still easier than burning muscle mass) but just didn't have to dehydrate as much. So if he was dehydrating to around 5-6% of his body weight to make 140, then he only dehydrated 2-3% to make 145, which is a lot easier than dehydrating 6-7% (like Cotto maybe did) and losing mass.

Now I'm not defending Cotto (I don't like him) but I'm just telling you that this isn't as easy as most people think it is. It's not just about losing one pound or winning 7, it's about what's behind that.

He doesn't need catchweights as long as the opponent is willing to meet him at 147. So according to you, Trout is greater than Pac, cause he's willing to meet Cotto at 154? Same for Lara, Canelo (LMAO), Wolak, Rodriguez. But Bursak is greater than Cotto, since he was willing to face NJikam at 160, which Cotto wasn't willing to do. And of course Roberto Garcia is greater than Cotto since he didn't need a cw against Marg at 154.

153 is not a real weight class, shame on Cotto.
First time I've ever heard of there being a rehydration clause in the actual contract. Cotto asked for one, but didn't get it.
