really? if manny actually fought guzman right now you would say "why is manny fighting a past it unranked 140 pounder."

guzman is a nobody right now and you know it. Yes he should have fought guzman at 130 but now its just silly and no one would take that fight seriously.

Actually, the way Manny has been looking lately it might not be a bad idea to make this fight happen. Who knows it could turn out to be a great fight after all but I doubt Manny would take this fight.

Very risky fight for Khabib, going up against someone with Guzman's experience & slickness, & would imagine he'd be going in as a solid underdog. Guzman is avoided for good reason, & can make anyone look bad.

For Khabib & his people to be making serious offers to Guzman, they must be very confident about him.
PS. I believe Kostya Tszyu co-trains Khabib these days, & he has looked pretty spectactular in his last few fights.

Good move, once Guzman gets that belt he'll be able to secure a big fight.

And you're right, this maybe a fight he didn't have to take at this point. BUT, I like this fight for Khabib, career wise; due to the simple fact that a win over a quality opponent like Guzman will give Khabib just the recognition he needs; fan wise, he'll get some fans outside of Russia.....and ranking wise, he will shoot up in all of rankings and have the opportunity to make a big fight. Just look at the people in this thread, hardly anyone on the first page know who he is.........a win over a guy like Guzman would give him INSTANT respect and recognition. If he fights a guy like this so early in his career, and WINS.....then there's no denying him. None of the top guys could say "make a name for yourself first" or "fight a quality opponent," etc. Far too many times, really really good fighters get ignored because the majority of fight fans simply "don't know" who they are. A fight like this would erase any of those doubts.

I personally, like to see fighters go this route, instead of the Canelo route, for example. No hate to Alvarez, but he hasn't exactly fought the riskiest of fights thus far.
Certainly Khabib, has looked spectacular in his last fights ... but put it against a veteran like Guzman is an unnecessary risk at this point in his career ... But I must say that would have a chance to beat a man with 36 years. His left-handed guard might help a lot, however, I think that despite its limitations today at Guzman tank still has to beat Khabib, whenever there is at its best, and achieve rid of the right jab of Khabib.

I'm a friend of Joan Guzman, and I must say: Khabib is a great fighter and Joan's greatest test in his professional career. However, this will be a test that Joan will also pass. Joan has over 300 amateur fights before becoming a professional and is and has been for a while the best boxer of our home country the Dominican Republic. A fight in which Joan is in the ring is not just a boxing match, its entertainment! Because Joan is so good that he is just that, an entertainer. So Khabib might catch and dazzle him down, because in a boxing match anything can happen, but Joan will get right back up and serve Khabib a knockout similar to one Jack Johnson served almost 100 years ago, whiping his opponents teeth of his glove afterwards.
